Safety Tips

Please remember: SAFETY FIRST!

Skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed in many ways. At ski areas you may see people using alpine, snowboard, telemark, cross country or other specialized ski equipment, such as that used by disabled or other skiers. Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce.

Before hitting the slops & trails please read these Ski & Snowboarding Tips. If you are new to skiing or snowboarding, please consider taking lessons from a qualified instructor such as those at Bruce Mound's Ski/Snowboard School, where for a small fee you can get friendly, personal, expert lessons.

Please observe the code listed below and share with other skiers the responsibility for a great skiing experience.

Ski/Snowboard Trail Difficulty Ratings
Knowing the ski/snowboard trail ratings are essential for ski & snowboard safety. Trail ratings vary at different resorts, so, it's important to consider all trails individually and use caution when skiing. The symbols below are commonly used throughout North America to rate the difficulty level of ski/snowboard trails and slopes. Learn more about ski trail ratings.
Easiest Green circle - The easiest trail at a mountain. Green Circle trails are generally wide and groomed, typically with slope gradients ranging from 6% to 25% (a 100% slope is a 45 degree angle).
Intermediate Blue square - Intermediate difficulty slopes with grades commonly ranging from 25% to 40%. These slopes are usually groomed.
Difficult Black Diamond - Amongst the most difficult at a given mountain. Black Diamond trails tend to be steep (typically 40% and up) and may or may not be groomed.
Expert Black Double diamond - These trails are even more difficult than Black Diamond, due to exceptionally steep slopes and other hazards such as narrow trails, exposure to wind, and the presence of obstacles such as steep drop-offs or trees. They are intended only for the most experienced skiers.
Pay attention to trail ratings & hill conditions. Always ski & snowboard within your abilities.
